Vampire Devices

The rising cost of energy around the world has prompted the BBC to publish another article about Vampire Devices on the 27th April 2022.

The article of course, focuses on the costs relating to the UK, although you won’t be surprised to know that this is a global issue, relating to South African households and most certainly schools.

The report only refers to loads that waste electricity when not in use, which is totally different to consumption of electricity that is needed in our day to day lives.

The following is a short list that you can pay particular attention to:

  • Turn off your light when you leave your classroom or office.
  • Turn off your printer when you leave the office for the night or holidays.
  • Plug out chargers when not in use.
  • If your school has a hot water urn - generally 50 Litres, make sure it is switched off in the night.
  • Ensure security lighting is not left on during the day.
